Ulysse Nardin Unveils Two New Marine-Inspired Limited Editions at the Monaco Yacht Show 2021

Monaco, September 22, 2021 – A leader in the manufacture of navigation instruments since 1846, the Swiss Maison’s playground has always been the ocean. For 175 years, Ulysse Nardin has lived, breathed, evolved, and created timepieces that echo the rhythm of the waves and the sea. This year, in celebration of its 175th anniversary, the brand unveils two new limited editions of its chronograph watches: the DIVER and MARINE Megayacht – both inspired by the ocean and refreshed with new colors: vibrant red accents and a special “Monaco Yacht Show” signature for the DIVER, and rose gold in place of platinum for the MARINE Megayacht.

Ulysse Nardin and the Monaco Yacht Show, the official sponsor of the yacht show for over a decade, share a passion for the sea, luxury, precision, and innovation. After a “year off,” the Monaco Yacht Show returns in late September, welcoming aficionados of sumptuous yachts, incredible destinations, and luxury stays back to Port Hercules. In this idyllic Mediterranean setting, Ulysse Nardin is unveiling two new models: the Diver Monaco Yacht Show and the rose gold version of its spectacular Haute Horlogerie piece, the Marine Mega Yacht. Diver and Marine are Ulysse Nardin’s flagship marine-inspired collections.

So, who will lead the waves?

DIVER CHRONOGRAPH, 44MM, MONACO YACHT SHOW – LIMITED EDITION, 100 PIECES

It goes without saying that the Swiss Manufacture produces some of the most reliable and contemporary diving watches on the market. The new Monaco Yacht Show Limited Edition is the crown jewel of the DIVER collection – an ultra-robust model that can withstand any challenge, even that of the fiercest sharks. This limited edition of just 100 pieces, with a sapphire crystal caseback, is powered by the UN-150 in-house automatic movement with a silicon escapement and a 48-hour power reserve.

This model is adorned with striking red accents – from the external flange connecting the case to the bezel, to the chronograph’s second hand, subdial hands, and the date window. The “MONACO YACHT SHOW” signature is printed beneath the Ulysse Nardin logo. The case, sapphire crystal caseback, bezel, and UN element are crafted in titanium, with the bezel covered in rubber. It features all the classic dive watch attributes: ultra-resistant sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, screw-in safety pushers, Superluminova on the “0”, and a reversed concave unidirectional rotating bezel for optimal readability even in the depths. Several strap options are available: rubber, metal, or fabric with velcro closure.

MARINE MEGA YACHT, 44MM, 5N ROSE GOLD – 30 PIECES

Launched in 2017, the Marine Torpilleur embodies Ulysse Nardin’s roots and history. It’s the latest addition to the prestigious Marine collection, which traces back to the 19th century when explorers relied on marine chronometers for navigation. Today, the Marine Torpilleur stands as the most innovative and avant-garde expression of that heritage.

For its 175th anniversary, Ulysse Nardin expands the collection with new movements, complications, chronographs, and enamel dials. Among them: a new Marine Megayacht in rose gold, complementing the 2019 platinum version.

Crafted like a luxury mega yacht, the new rose gold Marine Mega Yacht – limited to just 30 pieces – features a flying tourbillon with a cage inspired by a cutting-edge ship’s propeller. Strongly tied to the megayacht concept, the watch features a 3D “grand feu” enamel dial evoking the prow of a ship slicing through the ocean. It doesn’t just indicate the time – it also displays a hyper-realistic moon phase, a sophisticated tide amplitude indicator, and a chain-hoisted anchor linked to a windlass at 12 o’clock that indicates the power reserve.

This 44mm timepiece features the streamlined bow of a luxury yacht on the dial. Meticulously reproduced in 3D, it appears to emerge from liquid white gold, merging into a “grand feu” enamel sea, complete with astonishingly lifelike foam waves. Chronometric precision is ensured by the flying tourbillon, whose cage resembles the sculpted blades of high-performance propellers. The hands, inspired by traditional marine chronometers, glide over the scene like lighthouse beams or drifting buoys on the open sea.

This powerful 37mm hand-wound movement, composed of 504 components, provides an 80-hour power reserve at a cruising speed of 21,600 vph and a tourbillon rotation of 60 beats per hour (one per minute). It delivers analog time display, 3D moon phases, and real-time tide level linked to a specific location, along with seasonal coefficients, all adjustable via the winding crown. Its function is shown in a side window like a traditional engine order telegraph.

The moon phase is depicted using a precise miniature 3D model with ultra-detailed engraving. Composed of two hemispheres – one PVD blue (new moon) and the other rhodium-plated (illuminated by the sun) – it is adjusted via the winding crown when the telegraph window displays the corresponding function:

  • S: Set (time setting)

  • TM: Tide and Moon

  • W: Winding

Turning the crown counterclockwise adjusts the moon phase and tide (1 turn = 4 days), and clockwise adjusts the tide level based on the user’s location (1 turn = 0.25 disc turns or 9.5 hours).

Finally, the anchor – with its contemporary, streamlined design – moves in sync with the crown to indicate power reserve, via a miniature windlass mechanism at 12 o’clock. Using a gear system directly connected to the mainspring’s winding mechanism, it rotates to simulate anchor hoisting for a truly captivating display.
